Southern Odisha’s Infrastructure Push Gains Momentum in Parliament
BJD MP Sasmit Patra has strongly advocated for accelerated infrastructure development in Southern Odisha, highlighting railways, highways, and airports as the three pillars of regional growth.
In Parliament, Patra pressed for the speedy execution of crucial railway projects, including the Gopalpur–Rayagada, Brahmapur–Sambalpur, Jeypore–Nabarangpur, and Jeypore–Malkangiri lines.
He also demanded modernisation of Brahmapur Railway Station and doubling of the Kottavalasa–Koraput line to enhance connectivity.
On highways, Patra called for four‑laning of NH‑157, widening of ghat sections in Kandhamal, and completion of NH‑26 stretches in Koraput and Nabarangpur.
He emphasised expediting the Vijayawada–Ranchi Economic Corridor and NH‑326 in Malkangiri to reduce accidents and boost trade.
Turning to aviation, he urged the commissioning of Rangeilunda Airport in Brahmapur and flagged irregular schedules at Jeypore and Malkangiri airports.
He also suggested exploring smaller airstrips in eco‑tourism districts to stimulate growth.
Patra concluded that the timely completion of these projects would transform connectivity, drive economic progress, and unlock Southern Odisha’s full potential.
