Smoke from Bhubaneswar-Sonepur Intercity Express causes panic

Bhubaneswar, Feb 12: Panic gripped passengers aboard the Bhubaneswar-Sonepur Intercity Express on Wednesday morning after smoke was seen emanating from under the air-conditioned coaches near Mancheswar railway station. The sight of smoke triggered brief chaos, with concerned passengers quickly alerting railway officials.
Responding swiftly, the railway authorities halted the train to assess the situation. The train remained stationary for nearly 30 minutes while technical staff conducted a thorough inspection. Officials later identified the issue as ‘brake binding,’ a common railway engineering problem where excessive friction in the braking system causes overheating and smoke generation.
After resolving the issue and ensuring the safety of passengers, the train resumed its journey without any further disruptions. No injuries or damage were reported.
A spokesperson for East Coast Railways confirmed the incident, stating, “The quick response of our train operators ensured passenger safety, and services were restored promptly. All necessary safety protocols were followed to prevent any untoward incident.”
The incident highlights the importance of prompt intervention by railway staff in ensuring smooth and secure train operations.
