Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), June 14: Police in Balangir town, Odisha, have apprehended six individuals in connection with the murder of Constable Shankar Behera, whose body was discovered in a hotel near Balangir railway station on May 17.
Balangir SP Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo informed the media on Friday that Constable Behera, stationed at Sonepur Town police station, was found with his hands and legs bound.
Following the discovery, three police teams led by SP Dnyandeo initiated a thorough investigation. It was revealed during the probe that the incident occurred during an illegal transaction involving precious stones. The primary suspect, Pankaj Kumar of Jharkhand, had rented the hotel room under a false identity and orchestrated the murder along with his associates.
Surveillance footage and inquiries at the railway station aided in identifying Pankaj Kumar and his accomplices. The constable had allegedly come to sell stones to Pankaj when he was subdued, murdered, and robbed of the valuable gems.
The arrested individuals are facing charges related to murder and illegal possession of precious stones.
