Kochi, June 9, ( OT Webdesk): A Singapore-flagged container ship, M V Wan Hai 503, caught fire 78 nautical miles off the Beypore coast in Kerala while en route to Navi Mumbai.

The incident, which occurred early Monday morning, has left four crew members missing, while several others sustained injuries.

Swift rescue operations were launched by the Indian Coast Guard and Navy, deploying five ships and aerial support to locate the missing crew and ensure emergency response measures.

The ship’s crew, consisting mostly of Taiwanese nationals, abandoned the vessel using lifeboats and rafts.

Authorities have initiated cargo assessment to check for hazardous material risks, while naval warships and nearby merchant vessels continue coordinated rescue efforts.

Officials assured that medical aid would be provided for the injured crew upon their arrival onshore.
