Shubhamitra Murder Case: Property Dispute and Financial Tensions Reveal Chilling Motive

The murder of traffic constable Shubhamitra Sahu has unravelled a disturbing web of financial disputes, betrayal, and alleged premeditated violence.

While initial investigations focused on her mysterious death and the suspicious past of her husband, Deepak Rout, new revelations point to a property dispute as the central motive.

After their court marriage, Shubhamitra and Deepak planned to buy a house together in Bhubaneswar’s Laxmisagar Housing Board area. The house, valued at Rs 40 lakh, was partially paid for with Rs 25 lakh—Rs 14 lakh from Shubhamitra and Rs 11 lakh from Deepak.

The remaining Rs 15 lakh was pending for registration, which was delayed due to the seller’s illness. Despite this, housewarming rituals were conducted, reportedly attended by Shubhamitra’s parents.

Tensions escalated when Shubhamitra repeatedly demanded her Rs 14 lakh back, suspecting foul play. She allegedly threatened suicide if the money wasn’t returned. Deepak refunded Rs 10 lakh, but bitterness lingered.

On the day of the incident, the couple met near Unit-6, where a heated argument turned fatal. Deepak allegedly strangled Shubhamitra during the confrontation, leading to her death.

In a panic, Deepak reportedly contacted his cousin Binod Bhuyan to plan the destruction of evidence. This adds another layer to the already complex investigation, which also includes allegations that Deepak may have murdered his first wife, Aparna Priyadarshini, in a staged accident to claim Rs 1.5 crore in insurance money.

Police are now probing both cases, with Deepak suspended and interrogated alongside other suspects. The Bhubaneswar property dispute is now seen as the primary trigger for Shubhamitra’s murder.
