Shreemayee Mishra Slams Nepotism, Says Deserving Talent Is Being Denied Opportunities
Bhubaneswar, Sept 28: Former BJD leader Shreemayee Mishra has stirred public discourse by openly criticising the widespread practice of nepotism in politics and the arts.
In a strongly worded Facebook post, Mishra described nepotism—or “swajanposhan”—as a corrosive social and political habit that prioritises personal relationships over merit and capability.
She argued that this favouritism systematically sidelines deserving individuals in key sectors such as governance, education, employment, and creative industries. “Those who work hard and possess true talent are often pushed aside,” Mishra wrote, adding that the practice breeds inequality, dissatisfaction, and moral decay in society.
While her post has sparked debate, Mishra has not clarified whether her remarks target specific individuals or institutions.
Her statement, however, resonates with broader concerns about transparency and fairness in public life.
