Shiksha Doot Killed by Maoists in Bijapur: Fear Grips Border Villages
Bijapur, Chhattisgarh – August 30: A 25-year-old grassroots education worker, Kallu Tati, was brutally killed by Maoist insurgents late Thursday night in Todka village, located near the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border.
Tati, deployed as a Shiksha Doot to promote literacy in remote areas, was abducted from his home and tortured before being murdered, according to local reports.
Shiksha Doots are part of a government initiative aimed at bridging the education gap in Maoist-affected regions.
However, their proximity to security forces and developmental efforts often makes them targets for extremist groups, who suspect them of being informants.
The incident has reignited concerns over the safety of frontline workers operating in insurgency-hit zones. Authorities have launched a full-scale investigation, though the motive remains officially unconfirmed.
Community leaders and human rights advocates are calling for enhanced security measures and renewed peace-building efforts in vulnerable districts.
The killing has triggered widespread fear across border villages, where Maoist activity remains a persistent threat.
