Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), May 31: The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) in Odisha has issued a severe heatwave warning for nine districts in the state, according to reports on Friday.
This directive comes in response to the prevailing summer heat and drought conditions. The SRC has instructed authorities in both North and South Odisha to take necessary precautions and remain vigilant.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department forecasts that the severe summer heat will persist for the next three days, with a particularly strong heatwave expected in the next 24 hours. Along the coast, residents can expect warm nights coupled with hot and humid conditions.
Temperatures soared to alarming levels on the preceding day, with Jharsuguda reaching 47 degrees Celsius, Titlagarh at 46.5 degrees, Bargarh at 46.3 degrees, and Sambalpur at 46.2 degrees. Nine cities recorded temperatures exceeding 45 degrees Celsius.
Despite the severe heatwave warning, there is a possibility of intermittent rain in certain parts of the state, along with a warning from the weather center regarding lightning, rain, and storms. In a contrasting development, on May 30, the monsoon made its onset in Kerala.
