Severe Cold Wave Grips Odisha, Record Low Temperatures in Cuttack and Rourkela

Odisha is reeling under an intense cold wave, with several cities recording their lowest temperatures in decades.

Rourkela shivered at 3.6°C, ranking as the fourth coldest city in India. Cuttack plunged to 8.9°C, breaking a 21‑year record for the city’s coldest day since 2004.

Bhubaneswar reported 10°C early in the morning, with dense fog adding to the chill.

Northern Odisha districts, including Mayurbhanj, reported sub‑zero conditions, underscoring the severity of the cold spell.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that the cold wave will persist until January 11, offering little immediate relief.

Residents across the state are resorting to protective measures as the biting cold continues to disrupt daily life, marking one of the harshest winters Odisha has faced in recent years.
