Maoist explosives recovery near Odisha-Jharkhand border

Bhubaneswar( OT webdesk)—In a major breakthrough against Maoist insurgency, joint security forces from Jharkhand and Odisha, in collaboration with CRPF and COBRA units, have successfully recovered 2.5 tonnes of explosives looted by rebels near the Jharkhand-Odisha border.

The operation, conducted on May 27, 2025, featured elite forces such as Jharkhand’s Jaguar unit and Odisha’s Special Operation Group (SOG).

Security personnel discovered the explosives—primarily gelatin sticks and other highly volatile materials—buried deep underground in the Saranda forest, where Maoists had strategically concealed them under rocks.

This recovery follows an intense gun battle between forces and insurgents, emphasising the ongoing fight against left-wing extremism in the region.

Speaking on the successful mission, Odisha’s Director General of Police (DGP), Y B Khurania, confirmed the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to further examine the incident and track down any remaining Maoist operatives.

Security agencies remain on high alert, vowing to intensify anti-Maoist operations across Jharkhand and Odisha.

Authorities have urged local communities to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities as part of the broader crackdown on extremist movements.
