Second National Mediation Conference Champions Dialogue Over Disputes in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, Sept 27: The Second National Mediation Conference commenced today at Lokseva Bhawan Convention Hall, Bhubaneswar, spotlighting India’s growing commitment to alternative dispute resolution (ADR).

The event brought together top judicial and political leaders, including the Governor of Odisha, the Chief Justice of India (CJI), and Chief Minister of Odisha, to advocate for mediation as a cornerstone of swift, participatory justice.

Governor Dr. Haribabu Kambhampati emphasised mediation’s role in fostering social harmony and trust, calling it a “dialogue-driven path to consensus.” CJI Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai lauded the Mediation Act, 2023, for transforming mediation into a statutory pillar of justice delivery, easing court burdens and empowering citizens.

Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi described mediation as a “movement for peace, goodwill, and justice,” highlighting its “Four C’s”—cost-effectiveness, confidentiality, control, and creativity.

He urged swift implementation of the conference’s recommendations to strengthen public trust and accessibility.

The conference also featured addresses from the Chief Justice of Orissa High Court, Law Minister Shri Prithwiraj Harichandan, and other dignitaries, including Supreme Court Judge Justice Surya Kant and Attorney General R. Venkataramani.

A message from the Prime Minister underscored national support for ADR reforms.

As discussions unfold, the conference aims to embed mediation deeply into India’s legal framework, promoting sustainable, amicable resolutions and reducing judicial backlog.
