SCU Busts Illegal Firearms Network in Bhubaneswar, Two Arrested

Bhubaneswar: In a decisive midnight operation, the Special Crime Unit (SCU) of Bhubaneswar–Cuttack dismantled an illegal firearms network operating across Odisha.

Acting on precise intelligence, officers intercepted two suspects near Malisahi, Unit‑III, under Kharvel Nagar police station in the early hours of November 15.

The raid led to the seizure of a carbine rifle, five semi‑automatic pistols, nine rounds of live ammunition, two mobile phones, and Rs1,170 in cash.

The accused, identified as Divyanshu Kumar (26) and Chandan Kumar (26), both hailing from Khagaria district in Bihar, were taken into custody without resistance.

Investigators revealed that the duo had been supplying weapons across Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha, and other parts of Odisha for profit.

The SCU engaged the suspects in a controlled negotiation before the arrest, during which they admitted to earlier supplies.

Authorities confirmed that the accused are undergoing interrogation to trace their supply chain, financial backers, and wider criminal links.

The operation underscores the SCU’s intensified crackdown on arms syndicates threatening public safety in the state.
