Cuttack, ( OT Webdesk): In a major development for healthcare in Odisha, SCB Medical College is set to become a Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Centre of Excellence, providing advanced treatment and diagnostic facilities for patients suffering from these genetic blood disorders.

The centre will be housed in a seven-story (G+7) building, funded by the National Health Mission, with an estimated cost of ₹20 crore.

This state-of-the-art facility will serve as a dedicated hub for treatment, research, and patient support in thalassemia and sickle cell disease.

Leading the initiative is Dr. Umakanta Satapathy, an additional DMET professor, who has been appointed as the nodal officer to oversee the establishment of the centre.

The facility is planned to be constructed near the BSc Nursing department, utilising available space.

The centre will provide comprehensive medical services, including advanced testing, specialised diagnosis, and cutting-edge treatment options.

While further decisions regarding bed capacity and additional facilities are still under discussion, the initiative is expected to significantly enhance healthcare accessibility and improve outcomes for patients in the region.
