SCB Clinical Unit to Open by June 30 Confirms Minister Prithviraj Harichandan
Cuttack: Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan has announced that the new clinical unit building at SCB Medical College and Hospital will be fully functional by June 30, 2026.
During an inspection of ongoing projects, the minister expressed dissatisfaction over delays in completing the residential complex, which was originally scheduled for March.
However, he confirmed that construction of Towers 1 and 2 of the clinical unit is substantially complete, and once operational, the facility will significantly enhance patient care and reduce the burden on existing infrastructure.
Harichandan also addressed concerns about the recent fire incident at the hospital.
He noted that the old building, which is over six decades old, will remain in use until the new unit is ready. Restoration work on the old structure will begin after June 30.
Multiple inquiries—including departmental, judicial, and technical fact‑finding committees—are underway to investigate the fire and ensure safety measures are strengthened.
