Sambalpur Sewerage Project Accident Leaves Two Workers Injured

Sambalpur witnessed a tragic accident on Thursday evening when two labourers were seriously injured during the ongoing sewerage project works.

The incident occurred around 7 PM on Shankar Math Road under Dhanupali police station limits, after a sudden soil collapse in a dug-up pit.

The victims, identified as Prem Param (26) and Mukesh Meghwal (30), both hailing from Rajasthan, were trapped under debris while other workers managed to escape.

Local residents and fellow labourers immediately raised an alarm, prompting swift action from the fire department and police.

Rescue teams worked tirelessly for nearly an hour, manually digging and using equipment to free the trapped workers. Both men were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital, where their condition is reported as serious but stable.

The incident has sparked concerns over safety measures in large-scale urban infrastructure projects, highlighting the urgent need for stricter monitoring and protective protocols to safeguard workers.
