Sambalpur: Elephant Attack Leaves One Dead, One Injured
A tragic incident unfolded near Halipali forest in Sambalpur district when a wild elephant attacked two villagers collecting firewood. Panchanan Naik (40) of Halipali village was killed instantly, while Sukanti Pradhan of Dunguripara sustained critical injuries.
According to forest officials, the victims had entered the forest to gather firewood when the elephant suddenly appeared and charged. Sukanti Pradhan was rushed to VIMSAR, Burla, for treatment.
The incident underscores the growing human–wildlife conflict in Odisha, where elephant incursions into villages and farmlands have become increasingly common. Authorities have urged locals to remain cautious and avoid venturing into forested areas alone.
