Sacred Banakalagi Ritual to Be Held Tomorrow at Jagannath Temple; Darshan Suspended for 5 Hours
Puri, Odisha – September 11: Devotees visiting the sacred Jagannath Temple in Puri will experience a temporary suspension of darshan tomorrow due to the observance of Banakalagi Niti, a revered ritual in the temple’s calendar.
The ceremony, which falls on Ashwina Krishna Chaturthi, involves the sacred adornment of Lord Jagannath and his siblings by the Datta Mahapatra Sevaks.
According to the temple administration, darshan will be closed from 5 PM to 10 PM to facilitate the ritual in complete sanctity. The process begins after the second Bhogamandap offering and is considered a deeply spiritual moment, symbolising the rejuvenation of the deities’ divine aura.
The Banakalagi Niti is not just a ceremonial tradition—it’s a moment of divine intimacy, where the deities are treated with utmost care and devotion. The temple authorities have urged devotees to plan their visits accordingly and respect the sanctity of the occasion.
