Rice ATM Launched in Bhubaneswar, Expansion Planned Across Odisha

Bhubaneswar has taken a digital leap in public welfare with the launch of Odisha’s first rice ATM in Mancheswar.

Introduced in August 2024, the initiative aims to streamline ration distribution and ensure transparency in the Public Distribution System (PDS).

Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra, responding in the Assembly, confirmed that the project is supported by the World Food Programme.

Since its rollout, the Bhubaneswar rice ATM has already served 20,217 beneficiaries, dispensing 3,805 quintals of 14 kg of rice.

Encouraged by its success, the state government plans to expand the facility to Jharsuguda, Nabarangapur, Keonjhar, and Dhenkanal districts.

The move is expected to enhance accessibility, reduce manual errors, and strengthen Odisha’s commitment to food security.

Officials believe rice ATMs will not only modernise ration delivery but also build trust among beneficiaries by offering a transparent, tech‑enabled system.
