Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), May 18: In the aftermath of the blackstone mine collapse in Odisha, rescue teams have recovered the bodies of two workers from the debris. Initially, machinery was retrieved from the site, but the workers remained unaccounted for.
Tragedy struck in Jajpur district on Thursday when a blackstone mine collapsed at the Dankari hills in the Dharmashala tehsil. The incident claimed at least one life, with several others feared trapped beneath the rubble.
According to reports, the collapse occurred during ongoing work, leading to a sudden cave-in of the soil. Suspicions arose that laborers working within the mine were engulfed by the landslide of large rocks from the hill. Prompt action was taken as locals promptly alerted the authorities.
Upon receiving the distress call, fire service personnel and police rushed to the scene to commence rescue operations. While one laborer’s body was recovered yesterday, efforts persist to free the remaining trapped workers.
Presently, officials from Dharmashala Tehsil and the NDRF team are actively engaged in the rescue efforts. Further updates on the incident are awaited as the rescue operation unfolds.
