Republic Day 2026: Odisha’s Heroes Honoured with Gallantry and Service Medals
Bhubaneswar: In a proud moment for Odisha, 26 personnel from the state have been awarded prestigious Gallantry and Service Medals on the occasion of Republic Day 2026.
The honours, announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs, recognise exceptional courage, dedication, and professionalism across police, fire, home guard, civil defence, and correctional services.
Among the awardees, four personnel received Gallantry Medals for acts of bravery in the line of duty.
They include DSP Atul Krishna Das, ASI Purna Chandra Padhan, Constable Ghanashyam Sahoo, and Constable Thabir Majhi.
Two officers were conferred with the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service, acknowledging their outstanding records and long-standing commitment to public safety.
The majority—20 personnel—were honoured with the Medal for Meritorious Service, celebrating their devotion to duty and professional excellence.
Notably, Baidyanath Samal, serving with the CBI’s Anti-Corruption Bureau in Bhubaneswar, was among 25 CBI officers nationwide to receive the Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
This recognition underscores Odisha’s significant contribution to national service, highlighting the bravery and dedication of its personnel who safeguard lives and uphold justice.
