Ravenshaw University Food Poisoning: 15 Students Hospitalized After Hostel Meal
Cuttack, Oct 29: Fifteen students from the East Hostel of Ravenshaw University were rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital late Tuesday night after exhibiting symptoms of vomiting and diarrhoea, suspected to be caused by food poisoning.
According to sources, the students began falling ill shortly after dinner, prompting hostel authorities to act swiftly. Medical transport was arranged, and all affected students were admitted to SCB Hospital, where doctors confirmed their condition as stable. The students are currently under observation and expected to recover soon.
Hospital officials attributed the symptoms to possible contamination in the food served at the hostel. In response, the university administration has temporarily shut down the hostel kitchen and sent food samples for laboratory analysis.
An internal investigation has been launched to trace the source of contamination. Authorities are also reviewing hygiene protocols and food handling practices across campus facilities. Local health officials have inspected the hostel premises, ordered immediate sanitation, and initiated a thorough check of water sources.
The incident has sparked concern among students and parents about food safety and hostel conditions. In a statement, Ravenshaw University assured that corrective measures are being implemented to prevent future occurrences and restore confidence in campus living standards
