Rabindra Mohan Sahoo Passes Away at 81 | Ollywood Producer Who Shaped Odia Cinema
Bhubaneswar, Dec 17: The Odia film industry mourns the loss of one of its most influential figures, Rabindra Mohan Sahoo, who passed away at the age of 81 after a prolonged illness.
A pioneering producer, distributor, and social worker, Sahoo’s contributions shaped the trajectory of Odia cinema for nearly four decades.
His debut production Ei Ta Dunia (1987), directed by Mohammed Mohasin, became a superhit and featured stalwarts like Bijay Mohanty, Uttam Mohanty, Ajit Das, Mihir Das, Anita Das, Aparajita, and music director Akshay Mohanty.
Following its success, Sahoo produced several acclaimed films, including Bastraharan, Bou Heba Emiti, Pacheri Uthila Majhi Duaru, Naga Panchami, Mani Nageswari, Sasu Hatakadi Bhauja Bedi, Kulanandana, Rasika Nagara, and Aalo Mora Kandhei.
Beyond cinema, Sahoo was deeply engaged in public life. He contested elections as a BJP candidate from Kendrapara, served as a councillor in Kendrapara Municipality, and held the position of president at Kendrapara Saraswati Sishu Vidyamandir.
His multifaceted career also included work as an actor, storyteller, and lyricist.
Colleagues, fans, and the film fraternity have expressed grief over his passing, remembering him as a visionary whose legacy will remain etched in Odisha’s cultural memory. He leaves behind his wife, five sons, and a daughter.
