Puri Street Vendors Relocate to New Zone Near Shree Setu

In a significant step toward decongesting Puri’s iconic Bada Danda, 933 of the 1,208 registered street vendors have agreed to shift to the newly developed vending zone near Shree Setu.

According to Housing and Urban Development Minister Dr Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, 627 vendors have already opened kiosks at the new site, while 306 are in the process of moving.

To support the transition, the government will provide three months of financial assistance to vendors who have yet to set up kiosks, as per norms laid down by the Land Acquisition Office.

The relocation initiative aims to provide vendors with a better working environment while easing congestion in the pilgrim town’s busiest stretch.

The update was shared in the Odisha Legislative Assembly in response to a query raised by MLA Sunil Kumar Mohanty.

Authorities believe the move will benefit both vendors and devotees by creating a more organised and accessible space around the sacred corridor.
