Puri Station’s Temporary Waiting Hall to Shut for Renovation Under Amrit Scheme
PURI, August 24(OT Webdesk) — The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has announced the temporary closure of the waiting hall at Puri Railway Station starting August 25, 2025, for essential repairs and upgrades.
The week-long renovation is part of the Ministry of Railways’ Amrit Station Scheme, which aims to transform over 1,300 railway stations across India into world-class transit hubs.
Railway officials confirmed that the waiting hall will reopen by September 1, 2025, barring any delays. The upgrade will focus on improving cleanliness, safety, and seating comfort for passengers.
“We request the public to bear with us during this period of inconvenience. The repair is being carried out to enhance passenger comfort and station facilities in the long term,” said an ECoR spokesperson.
Puri Station, a vital terminal for pilgrims and tourists visiting the Jagannath Temple, sees heavy footfall year-round.
Authorities have advised passengers to use alternative waiting areas and arrive closer to departure times to avoid discomfort.
The renovation underscores the government’s push to modernise infrastructure and elevate the travel experience for millions of rail users.
