Puri Jagannath Temple Darshan Scam: Cyber Police Investigate Fake Paid Services
Authorities at the revered Puri Jagannath Temple have raised alarms over fraudulent online portals offering “paid darshan” services to unsuspecting devotees.
A website named India Thrills allegedly promoted packages ranging from Rs 50 to Rs 500 for various types of darshan, including “VIP” and “night” access. These portals often include historical and ritualistic details to appear authentic.
Temple officials have firmly stated that darshan is entirely free and no paid schemes exist. Some websites even quoted puja charges in foreign currencies, targeting overseas devotees.
Following a formal complaint by temple security administrator Hemant Padhi, the Cyber Police have launched an investigation.
Puri SP Prateek Singh confirmed that cyber experts are actively probing the scam and assured strict action against those exploiting religious sentiments.
On-ground reports from Singhadwar suggest that some temple staff and volunteers may be accepting cash for expedited entry, despite the presence of law enforcement.
The Sri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) and the Puri Collector have initiated inquiries to preserve the sanctity of the temple and protect devotees from exploitation.
Officials reiterated their commitment to transparency and urged devotees to rely only on official channels for temple-related information.
