President of India Nominates Four Eminent Personalities to Rajya Sabha
New Delhi, July 13(OT Webdesk): In a significant move, the President of India has nominated four distinguished individuals to the Rajya Sabha under Articles 80(1)(a) and 80(3) of the Constitution.
This decision aims to bring diverse expertise into the Upper House, reinforcing democratic deliberations with voices rooted in diplomacy, justice, history, and social reform.
The Appointees
- Harsh Vardhan Shringla, former Foreign Secretary, is known for his diplomatic acumen and leadership as Chief Coordinator for India’s G20 Presidency in 2023.
- Ujjwal Deorao Nikam, acclaimed public prosecutor, is instrumental in high-profile criminal cases across India.
- C. Sadanandan Master, a Kerala-based social reformer, recognised for his grassroots work in education and empowerment.
- Meenakshi Jain, eminent historian and author, is celebrated for her contributions to Indian historical research.
These nominations fill the vacancies created by the retirement of previous members. The official notification was issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on July 12, 2025, with ANI confirming the update.
