President Murmu Highlights Human Rights as Bedrock of Justice on Human Rights Day 2025

On Human Rights Day 2025, President Droupadi Murmu underscored the enduring importance of universal human rights as the foundation of a just and compassionate society.

Addressing the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in New Delhi, she reminded the nation that seventy-seven years ago, the world united to affirm that every individual is born free and equal in dignity and rights.

Highlighting India’s pivotal role in shaping the global human rights framework, the President invoked the vision of freedom fighters who dreamed of a world rooted in dignity, equality, and justice.

She emphasised that rights must reach every citizen, especially those at the last mile, in line with the philosophy of Antyodaya.

Murmu noted that human rights are embedded in India’s Constitution, encompassing the right to live without fear, to learn without barriers, to work without exploitation, and to age with dignity.

She reiterated India’s belief that peace and justice are inseparable, praising the NHRC, State Commissions, judiciary, and civil society for acting as sentinels of constitutional conscience.

The President also spotlighted women’s empowerment as a key pillar of human rights, welcoming NHRC’s conference on women’s safety.

She pointed to recent government reforms, including the four Labour Codes, which strengthen social security and occupational safety.

Calling on citizens to actively participate in building a Viksit Bharat by 2047, President Murmu urged collective responsibility to ensure inclusive development and uphold the spirit of justice for all.
