Pradeep Kumar Jena Clinches Bhubaneswar Club Presidency in Nail-Biting Contest

In a gripping showdown between two bureaucratic heavyweights, Pradeep Kumar Jena, former Chief Secretary and current Chairman of the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission, has been elected President of the Bhubaneswar Club.

Jena edged past incumbent Asit Kumar Tripathy by a razor-thin margin of 18 votes, signalling a dramatic shift in the club’s leadership dynamics.

The election, held over two days with e-voting on Saturday and ballot polling on Sunday, saw participation from 2,321 members—1,922 individual and 399 corporate voters.

The results, declared shortly after 6 PM, capped a campaign marked by intense rivalry and sharply contrasting visions for the club’s future.

Jena’s “vote for change” platform resonated with members seeking fresh leadership, while Tripathy’s slogan “Bikash Eka Jatra” (Progress is a Journey) failed to secure a third term despite his previous landslide win in 2023.

The panel results revealed a fragmented electorate. Lalit Das, from Jena’s camp, won the Secretary post by 76 votes.

However, Tripathy’s panel retained influence, with Pragati Mohanty winning Vice President and Sambit Mohanty securing Joint Secretary.

The outcome reflects shifting alliances and a polarised membership base, setting the stage for a potentially transformative term under Jena’s leadership.
