Police Crack Down on Gambling Den in Sambalpur, Army Jawan Among Seven Arrested
Sambalpur police raided a gambling den in Burla town’s Kadha Market late Tuesday night, arresting seven individuals, including an army jawan. Acting on intelligence gathered during routine patrolling, officers stormed the location and caught the accused red‑handed.
Authorities seized cash worth Rs 1,40,560, one car, six two-wheelers, seven mobile phones, and 104 playing cards used in the gambling sessions.
The arrested men include Bikram Singh (30), Rajkumar Prasad Gupta alias Jilmi (31), Muna Prasad (37), Rahul Prasad Gupta (35), Basudev Barik (34), Prahlad Bag (28), and Tejbahadur Chhetri (47), a havildar in the SSBN 5th Battalion in Balasore who was home on leave.
Police registered case number 517 and produced the accused in court. Officials emphasised that the crackdown reflects their commitment to curb illegal gambling, which often involves large sums of money and attracts individuals from diverse backgrounds, including government employees.
Investigations are ongoing to identify others linked to the network.
