Police Bandhu Initiative Launched in Barbil to Strengthen Police-Student Bond

Barbil(OT Webdesk) – In a commendable step towards fostering trust and understanding between law enforcement and the youth, Barbil Police, under the direction of the Superintendent of Police, Keonjhar, launched the “Police Bandhu” program at Jindal School, Barbil.

This initiative is designed to promote meaningful interaction between police officers and students, and will gradually be extended to all educational institutions in the locality.

The inaugural session was chaired by Devendra Pingua, SDPO Barbil, Ashok Kumar Nayak, IIC Barbil, and Sangeeta Rani Das, Principal of Jindal School.

The program began with a welcome address by Jolly Jourihar, a faculty member, and concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by student Roshni Sharma. A large number of students attended the event and actively participated in an engaging question-and-answer session with the officers.

The “Police Bandhu” initiative focuses on educating students about how to respond to issues such as eve-teasing, ragging, molestation, and harassment.

It also aims to spread awareness about legal provisions and available support services, while ensuring confidentiality for victims and informants.

Students were guided on appropriate actions during distress situations, and the program emphasised the importance of mental resilience and discouraging suicidal thoughts.

Special attention was given to empowering girls and women to face challenges and seek justice confidently.

During the session, police officials distributed toll-free helpline numbers, local police contact details, and the District Police Control Room number, along with contact information of other relevant stakeholders.

Barbil Police reiterated their commitment to stand beside the student community, ensuring their safety, security, and mental well-being through continued engagement and support.

The launch of “Police Bandhu” marks a significant step in community-oriented policing, aiming to build a safer and more informed student population through trust, dialogue, and empowerment.
