PM Modi’s Croatia Visit Showcases India’s Cultural Diplomacy Through Traditional Gifts

Modi Croatia cultural gifts

June 19(OT Webdesk): In a landmark diplomatic gesture during his first-ever visit to Croatia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented India’s rich artistic heritage to the nation’s top leadership.

The move came as part of his three-nation tour across Cyprus, Canada, and Croatia.

PM Modi gifted a traditional Pattachitra painting to Croatian President Zoran Milanović.

Originating from Odisha’s heritage village of Raghurajpur, the artwork vividly captures key moments from Lord Krishna’s life—ranging from his playful childhood to the divine Ras Leela—executed in intricate natural dyes and framed in ornate floral borders.

The art form is deeply intertwined with Odisha’s Jagannath tradition and passed down through generations.

To Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, Modi presented a handcrafted silver candle stand from Rajasthan.

Embellished with intricate floral and geometric motifs inspired by India’s palatial and temple architecture, the piece was designed by master artisans from Jaipur and Udaipur, reflecting the country’s finesse in silverwork.

In addition to cultural exchange, PM Modi engaged in high-level talks with Croatian leaders on bolstering bilateral cooperation across trade, technology, defence, renewable energy, artificial intelligence, and tourism.

“Had extensive discussions on the full range of India-Croatia friendship, including ways to boost linkages of commerce and culture,” he later shared on X.

His visit marks a renewed chapter in India-Croatia relations, reinforcing diplomacy through artistry and shared values.
