PM Modi Urges ‘Vocal for Local’ Ahead of Diwali, Pays Tribute to RSS at 100 Years

In the 126th edition of his monthly radio address, Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on citizens to embrace the “Vocal for Local” mantra during the festive season, urging them to purchase only Indian-made products.

He emphasised that self-reliance is the cornerstone of a self-reliant India.

Modi paid heartfelt tributes to freedom fighter Shaheed Bhagat Singh and legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, recalling their enduring impact on the nation’s spirit. He shared a personal anecdote about Mangeshkar sending him a Rakhi every year, underscoring their close bond.

Highlighting women’s achievements in defence, Modi introduced Lt. Commanders Dilna and Roopa of the Indian Navy, who participated in the Navika Sagar Parikrama. He praised their courage and determination.

The Prime Minister also announced efforts to include Chhath Puja in UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List, aiming to showcase its cultural richness globally.

Ahead of Gandhi Jayanti, Modi encouraged citizens to buy Khadi and share their purchases online using #VocalforLocal. He spotlighted innovative ventures like Yaazh Naturals and Johargram, which blend tradition with entrepreneurship.

Marking the centenary of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Modi lauded its volunteers for a century of service, discipline, and commitment to the nation. He noted their role as first responders during disasters and emphasised their guiding principle of “Nation First.”
