PM Modi Urges End to Russia-Ukraine Conflict in Bilateral Talks with Putin at SCO Summit
Beijing, September 1: In a significant diplomatic moment at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in China, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Russian President Vladimir Putin and called for an urgent resolution to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Modi emphasised that the demand for peace is not just political—it’s a call from “entire humanity.”
“We welcome all recent efforts for peace. A way has to be found to end the conflict as soon as possible and establish lasting peace,” Modi stated, urging all parties to move forward constructively.
The meeting also underscored the enduring strength of India-Russia relations. Modi highlighted the nation’s history of standing “shoulder to shoulder” during challenging times and stressed the importance of people-to-people ties for global stability.
President Putin is expected to visit India in December 2025 for the 23rd India-Russia Summit, a visit Modi said is eagerly awaited by over 1.40 crore Indians.
The leaders arrived together in the same car for their bilateral meeting, symbolising their cordial rapport.
This interaction is expected to further deepen strategic cooperation and reinforce India’s balanced diplomatic stance amid global tensions.
