PM Modi to Launch Free Cervical Cancer Vaccine Drive for Girls on Feb 28

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate a nationwide cervical cancer vaccination program on February 28, 2026, marking a major step in India’s preventive healthcare strategy.

The initiative will provide free single‑dose vaccines to adolescent girls up to 14 years of age, aiming to reduce the future burden of cervical cancer.

Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling confirmed that independent guidelines have been issued to ensure smooth rollout across states.

The program is part of a larger cancer prevention mission, including the Chief Minister’s Cancer Care Mission (2026–27), which will involve an expenditure of Rs 311 crore to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and reduce cancerRs related deaths.

Medical experts emphasise that early vaccination is critical in lowering cervical cancer risks, which remain a leading cause of mortality among women in India.

The government’s move reflects its commitment to public health, preventive care, and long‑term health outcomes for adolescent girls nationwide.
