PM Modi Inaugurates Asia’s Widest Six-Lane Bridge, Ushering in a New Era of Connectivity in Bihar

(OT Webdesk)Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the Aunta–Simaria six-lane bridge over the Ganga River, marking a transformative moment in Bihar’s infrastructure landscape.

Stretching 1.86 kilometres and spanning 34 meters in width, the bridge is now Asia’s widest extradosed cable-stayed structure.

Strategically built on National Highway 31, the bridge links Aunta Ghat in Mokama with Simaria in Begusarai, offering a direct route between North and South Bihar.

The project is expected to eliminate nearly 100 kilometres of detours for freight and passenger vehicles, significantly easing traffic congestion and reducing travel time.

The bridge’s advanced engineering includes cantilever arms extending up to 70 meters, ensuring long-term durability and smoother traffic flow. It also enhances access to Simaria Dham, a revered religious site and birthplace of celebrated poet Ramdhari Singh Dinkar.

Union Minister Giriraj Singh hailed the bridge as a “milestone in Bihar’s development,” emphasising its potential to boost trade for makhana farmers and industrial hubs like Barauni.

Road Construction Minister Nitin Navin described it as a “landmark project” that positions Bihar as a future growth engine of India.

Beyond its technical marvel, the bridge symbolizes deeper cultural and economic integration, promising new opportunities for regional development and connectivity.
