Passenger Train Mounts Freight Train in Bilaspur: 10 Dead, Dozens Injured

In a devastating rail accident near Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, a passenger train collided with a stationary freight train, resulting in at least 10 fatalities and injuring more than a dozen passengers.

The incident occurred near Lalkhand station on the Bilaspur-Katni section, where the passenger train mounted the freight train, causing multiple coaches to derail.

Rescue operations were launched immediately, with teams using cutting equipment to free trapped passengers. Ambulances rushed the injured to nearby hospitals, while railway officials, RPF personnel, and local police coordinated emergency response efforts.

The collision severely damaged overhead wires and signal systems, disrupting train services on the route. Several trains have been cancelled or diverted as authorities work to restore operations.

Senior railway officials, including the General Manager of South East Central Railway, visited the site to oversee rescue and relief efforts. Helpline numbers have been issued for affected families seeking information.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
