Passenger Bus Crash in Indonesia Leaves 16 Dead, Dozens Injured
A tragic accident on Indonesia’s main island of Java claimed the lives of at least 16 passengers after a bus carrying 34 people overturned on a toll road in Semarang, Central Java, shortly after midnight on Monday.
The inter-provincial bus, travelling from Jakarta to Yogyakarta, lost control on a curved exit ramp at the Krapyak toll road, struck a concrete barrier, and flipped onto its side.
Rescue officials reported that six passengers died at the scene, while another 10 succumbed to injuries during transport or treatment.
Eighteen passengers were rushed to nearby hospitals, with five in critical condition and 13 suffering serious injuries.
Television footage showed the yellow bus lying on its side as police, rescue workers, and bystanders gathered at the crash site. Ambulances transported both injured passengers and bodies away from the area.
Authorities highlighted that the incident underscores the dangers of toll road travel and the urgent need for stronger road safety measures in Indonesia.
