Padma Shri Awardee Purnamasi Jani Hospitalised, Condition Stable
Kandhamal: Eminent tribal singer and Padma Shri awardee Purnamasi Jani has been admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Kandhamal after suffering from swelling in her legs and hands, along with anaemia.
Initially taken to Khajuripada Hospital, she was later shifted to the district facility, where doctors confirmed her condition.
Hospital authorities stated that she is under close medical supervision in the medicine department and her health remains stable.
Born in 1936, Jani has dedicated over six decades to preserving and promoting tribal culture through thousands of songs in Odia, Kui, and Sanskrit.
Despite never attending school, she is celebrated for her ability to recite poems fluently in Kui.
Her lifelong contributions to social activism and tribal traditions earned her the prestigious Padma Shri in 2021.
