Boudh, December 19, 2025: Panic gripped Gabajor village under Similipadar panchayat of Kantamal block after more than 70 people, including children, women, and men, fell ill following the consumption of dahibara purchased from a local vendor at the weekly market.

According to reports, the vendor sold the snacks across Gabajor and nearby areas on Wednesday. By Thursday morning, villagers who had consumed the food began suffering from dizziness and vomiting. Several children were reported to be in critical condition.

On receiving information, Dr Nikhil Prasad Bhukta and his team from Palasagora health centre rushed to the village and began treatment.

As the number of serious cases increased, another medical team from Manamunda health centre joined the efforts. Doctors and staff continued treating patients until midnight.

Medical Officer Mahendra Sae confirmed that severely affected patients were being shifted to larger hospitals for advanced care. He stressed that urgent intervention was necessary to prevent further casualties.

The incident created widespread fear in Gabajor village, with families deeply concerned about the health of their children and neighbours.

However, officials reported a slight improvement in many patients’ conditions by Friday morning.
