Over 15 Injured as Passenger Van Plunges into Gorge in Malkangiri

Malkangiri, a(OT Webdesk)— A tragic road accident occurred on Thursday in the Bayapada Ghat region under Nakamamudi Panchayat of Korukonda block, where a passenger van lost control and plunged into a gorge.

The vehicle, reportedly travelling from Amlibeda to Kudumulugumma’s weekly market, was carrying over 25 passengers when it veered off the narrow, hilly road.

Initial reports confirm that more than 15 passengers sustained serious injuries. Rescue operations were swiftly launched by the Kudumulugumma Fire Services team, who managed to pull several injured individuals from the mangled vehicle.

However, sources indicate that some passengers may still be trapped inside.

Authorities suspect the accident was caused by a loss of balance while navigating the steep terrain. Emergency services are coordinating with local officials to ensure timely medical attention for all victims.

This incident has reignited concerns over road safety in Odisha’s remote tribal regions, where poor infrastructure and challenging terrain continue to pose serious risks to commuters.
