Orissa HC’s New Rules: Safeguarding Seized Property Rights

Orissa High Court seized property guidelines

In a progressive move to enhance judicial efficiency and protect property rights, the Orissa High Court has introduced comprehensive guidelines for handling confiscated assets. These measures aim to prevent indefinite retention of seized items by courts and investigative agencies across the state.

The guidelines cover a range of asset categories, including cash, bank deposits, precious items, vehicles, electronics, perishables, narcotics, and liquor. Highlights include directives for prompt release or secure storage of items, time-bound reviews, and transparency in asset management.

Justice Sibo Shankar Mishra is leading the initiative, ensuring compliance and oversight.

The step is expected to build public trust in the judicial system, reduce case backlogs, and prevent asset depreciation due to prolonged legal processes.
