Operation Nightsweeper: Jajpur Police Arrest 14 in Burglary Case, Recover Gold & Cash

Jajpur police have successfully dismantled a notorious burglary gang through Operation Nightsweeper, arresting 14 individuals involved in a string of thefts across the district over the past six months.

Under the guidance of DIG (Central Range), multiple police teams were deployed after receiving reliable intelligence.

The gang had targeted homes in Dharmasala, Kuakhia, Bramhabarda, Chandikhole, and Balichandrapur, stealing gold, silver jewellery, and cash.

During the operation, police recovered 225 grams of gold, 2.39 kilograms of silver ornaments, Rs 5.9 lakh cash, three vehicles, 15 mobile phones, weapons, and house-breaking tools.

Investigations revealed that the principal accused—Mehboob, Guro, and Aman—regularly disposed of stolen ornaments at jeweller Janmejaya Sahoo alias Kanha in Balichandrapur Bazar.

The ornaments were then supplied to Amal Seth of Cuttack, who melted them into raw gold for cash commissions. The proceeds were shared among gang members based on participation.

The arrested include Sk Alimuddin alias Goro, Soumyaranjan Behera alias Bagha, Rahim Khan, Sk Emauddin alias Chua, Sk Mustakim Ali, Raju Khan, Sk Mehetab, Manoj Malik, Sk Chand, and Gouttam Jena alias Nanda. Receivers Janmejaya Sahoo, Amal Seth, Bikram Behera, and Pabitra Sethy were also nabbed.

Meanwhile, three accused—Lalloo, Aman, and Mehboob—remain absconding. Police are verifying the gang’s involvement in other districts, and the case will be forwarded to the JMFC Court, Chandikhole.

Authorities confirmed that further updates on Operation Nightsweeper will follow as investigations continue.
