Operation Cyber Kavach: Odisha Police Verify 304 Mule Accounts, Arrest 20 in Cybercrime Crackdown

Odisha Police has intensified its statewide campaign against cybercrime under Operation Cyber Kavach, targeting benami (mule) bank accounts used in online fraud.

In a coordinated effort across districts, authorities verified 304 suspicious accounts, registered 17 new cybercrime cases, and arrested 20 individuals linked to fraudulent transactions.

District‑wise action included Keonjhar, verifying 203 accounts with 6 cases registered and 7 arrests, Sambalpur checking 63 accounts with 8 cases and 13 arrests, Boudh verifying 4 accounts with 2 cases and 4 legal notices, while Puri and Nabarangpur also reported account verifications leading to fresh cases.

Police officials emphasised that dismantling mule accounts is crucial to breaking the financial backbone of cybercriminals.

Legal notices were issued to facilitators, and authorities reaffirmed their commitment to digital security, promising sustained efforts to protect citizens from online fraud.
