Operation Cyber Kavach: Odisha Police Crack Down on Mule Accounts
Odisha Police have launched a sweeping statewide initiative, Operation Cyber Kavach, to dismantle the financial networks enabling cybercrime.
Under the directive of DGP Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, district Cyber Crime Units, supported by the CID Crime Branch, are targeting mule (benami) accounts used by fraudsters to launder money.
So far, authorities have scrutinised 3,625 mule accounts, registered 275 cases, and arrested 187 individuals. Additionally, 1,075 legal notices have been issued to suspected facilitators.
The crackdown also uncovered cases of checklifting and fraudulent SIM PoS verifications.
District‑level actions highlight the scale of the operation: Jagatsinghpur probed 20 accounts, Jajpur examined 44 accounts with four cases filed, Kendrapara investigated 88 accounts, Khordha checked 98 accounts, and Puri lodged five cases, including one check lifting incident. Similar drives are underway across Cuttack, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur, and other districts.
Odisha Police have pledged to intensify the campaign further, aiming to secure digital transactions and build a cybercrime‑free state.
