OPCC Chief Slams BJP’s “Chaotic Triumph” in Nuapada, Warns Party Traitors

In a fiery post-poll briefing at Bhubaneswar airport, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) President Bhakta Charan Das denounced the BJP’s victory in the Nuapada by-election as a “mockery of democracy.” Das alleged that the ruling party relied on unprecedented spending, misuse of state machinery, and police interference to secure the seat.

He also issued stern warnings to “Vibhishans” within Congress—traitors who, he claimed, sabotaged the campaign through misinformation and self-destructive behaviour.

Das vowed zero tolerance for such anti-party activities.

Despite the loss, Congress secured over 40,000 votes against a formidable opponent, which Das hailed as a historic achievement.

He credited grassroots mobilisation, small-scale panchayat meetings, and voluntary rallies for the surge in support, contrasting it with the BJP’s “fear-driven” campaign.

Das accused the BJP of spending crores daily, orchestrating cultural extravaganzas, and deploying ministers and MLAs in aggressive roadshows.

He further alleged that the poll was “police-managed,” pointing to BJP candidate Jay Dholakia’s post-win gesture of bowing before Inspector General Himanshu Lal as evidence of bias.

The OPCC chief also criticised the BJD for mirroring the BJP’s undemocratic tactics. Framing the by-election as a morale booster, Das insisted that Congress had learned valuable lessons to counter the BJP’s strategies in future battles.
