One Dead, Ten Injured in Kandhamal Bus Mishap at Kalinga Ghati
Kandhamal, November 7: A tragic bus accident occurred early Friday morning near Kalinga Ghati, close to Ghumusar Udayagiri in Kandhamal district, claiming the life of one woman and injuring at least ten others.
The ill-fated passenger bus, identified as ‘Sriram’ (OD 05F0629), was en route from Bargarh to Berhampur when it lost control around 4:20 AM while navigating a sharp curve.
The vehicle overturned and crashed through roadside barriers, causing serious injuries to several passengers.
Local police and fire services from Udayagiri and Bhanjanagar responded swiftly, rescuing the injured and transporting them to nearby health centers. The deceased passenger’s identity remains unconfirmed at the time of reporting.
Preliminary investigations suggest the driver lost control due to high speed on a steep bend. The bus was carrying 24 passengers, many of whom were thrown from their seats during the impact.
Authorities have launched a probe into the incident, and safety measures along the Kalinga Ghati stretch are expected to be reviewed.
