Om Birla Inaugurates National SC & ST Welfare Conference 2025 in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, August 29 — Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla inaugurated the National Conference of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Welfare Committees today in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

The two-day event, held on August 29–30, brings together over 120 delegates from Parliament and 19 states, including committee chairpersons and members.

The conference serves as a strategic platform for dialogue, collaboration, and policy refinement aimed at uplifting marginalised communities.

In his address, Birla emphasised the need for stronger coordination between central and state-level welfare bodies and called for more robust legislative oversight to ensure inclusive development.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy, and Union Tribal Minister Jual Oram were among the dignitaries present.

This year’s gathering continues a legacy of national welfare conferences dating back to 1976, with previous editions held in New Delhi, Bhopal, and other cities.

The Bhubaneswar edition is expected to yield actionable recommendations and reinforce the nation’s commitment to social justice and equity.
