Odisha’s First Skill Centre Inaugurated at Paradip College Under Nua Odisha Scheme
Paradip: Odisha took a significant step toward empowering its youth with industry-ready skills as the state’s first Skill Centre was inaugurated at Paradip College under the Nua Odisha scheme.
The centre, launched by Industries and Skill Development Minister Sampad Chandra Swain, aims to bridge the gap between education and employment by offering specialised training aligned with national standards.
Addressing students, the minister urged them to treat the centre as a “career launchpad,” emphasising that skills matter more than certificates in today’s competitive job market.
Initially, the centre will focus on the Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) sector, training students as Account Executives. Operated by the BFSI Sector Skill Council, the facility has the capacity to train 200 students annually, with certification and placement support included.
Swain highlighted Odisha’s rapid industrial growth and Paradip Port’s role as a gateway to global trade, stressing the importance of timely skill acquisition for youth.
He also encouraged faculty to ensure industry linkages through field visits, guest lectures, internships, and employment support, positioning the centre as a hub of excellence.
In addition to the inauguration, 13 trainees under the Nano Unicorn scheme received cheques of Rs 1 lakh each, furthering the state’s commitment to nurturing entrepreneurship.
The event was attended by local officials, Paradip Municipality Chairman, Additional District Magistrate, Skill Development Authority representatives, and Paradip College Principal.
