Odisha Women’s Commission Holds Jan Sunani in Bhubaneswar

The Odisha State Commission for Women, in collaboration with the National Commission for Women, organised a Jan Sunani (Public Hearing) in Bhubaneswar on March 6, 2026.

The initiative provided a vital platform for women to raise grievances related to domestic violence, workplace harassment, dowry disputes, property conflicts, cybercrimes, desertion, and matrimonial issues.

During the session, notices were issued for 86 cases from Khordha district, with 45 cases directly heard and six new cases registered on the spot.

Action Taken Reports were also submitted for 150 previously recommended cases, reflecting coordinated efforts between police, protection officers, and legal services.

The hearing was chaired by Commission Chairperson Smt. Shobhan Mohanty, alongside members Urmila Mohapatra, Pratibha Satpathy, Mukta Sahu, and Dr Kalpana Malik. District-level cooperation came from Khordha Police, the District Legal Services Authority, Social Welfare Officer, Protection Officer, and representatives of Sakhi One Stop Centre.

This collaborative effort reinforced direct access to justice for women and highlighted the importance of multi-agency coordination in addressing gender-based grievances at the grassroots level.
