Odisha Weather Alert: IMD Issues Yellow Warning for 15 Districts Amid Bay of Bengal Low Pressure

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for 15 districts of Odisha as a low-pressure area is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal within the next 48 hours.

The system, linked to a cyclonic circulation over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Indian Ocean, is expected to move northwestwards, triggering widespread rainfall activity across the state.

Districts under alert include Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Jajpur, Puri, Cuttack, Khordha, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, and Malkangiri.

Rainfall activity is forecast to begin on February 23, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in several districts. On February 24, intensified conditions are expected in Khordha, Cuttack, and Mayurbhanj.

Meteorologists caution that heavy showers may disrupt agricultural activities and daily life, though the exact impact will depend on the system’s movement and intensity.

Authorities have urged residents to stay alert and follow official advisories, underscoring Odisha’s vulnerability to sudden weather changes.
